Liga MB Round 11: Aguila keeps a leadership position- October 20, 2021
Liga MB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Aguila - Santiagueno 76-52 The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Aguila as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Aguila smashed 8th ranked Santiagueno in San Miguel 76-52. They outrebounded Santiagueno 56-32 including a 23-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Argentinian Ramiro Trebucq (204-95) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Ecuadorian power forward Carlos Delgado (202-90) helped adding 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Aguila players scored in double figures. American Xavier Eaglin (201-97, college: PVAMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with San Salvador. Santiagueno lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Santiagueno will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Aguila will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked El Rapido in La Union. San Salvador forced 20 Santa Tecla turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Santa Tecla's players. San Salvador brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-86, college: Miles) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94) accounted for 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winning side. San Salvador's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Carlos Arias (200-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Mauricio Lahud (175-84) added 19 points respectively for Santa Tecla in the defeat. San Salvador have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aguila. Defending champion Santa Tecla keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Brujos. San Salvador will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Tecla will play on the road against Chalchuapa (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track. Cojute dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 56. Cojute forced 27 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 49-32 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American swingman Zekiah Owens (197-98, college: AIC) who had a double-double by scoring 51 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. American guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds. Point guard Raul Miranda (175-96) produced 35 points (!!!) and Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-87, college: App State) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Chalchuapa players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cojute moved-up to seventh place, which they share with El Rapido. Chalchuapa at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Cojute will meet higher ranked Fantasmas (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will play against Santa Tecla (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory. Guard Sameen Swint (193, college: GBC) chipped in 30 points and 8 rebounds. Reggie Baker (193-93, college: BCU) produced 24 points and point guard Jerry Price (170, college: Rowan) added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four El Rapido players scored in double figures. Fantasmas maintains sixth place with 5-5 record. Loser El Rapido keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Cojute. Fantasmas will meet at home Cojute (#7) in the next round. El Rapido will play against the league's leader Aguila in San Miguel and hope to secure a win.
